I've enjoyed Doescher's wonderful retellings of the "Star Wars" movie plots in the form of Shakespearian plays (see my comments on one here), and was delighted to see that he's branched out to other films now. Got this softcover from an online seller. It's a retelling of the movie Back to the Future!

As with the other books, this one pays serious homage to the Bard's play-structure, rhyme schemes, fun-with-acrostics, and more - while adding some of the author's touches, and also accurately retelling the movie. Loads of musical references are embedded in the prose, some blatant and some subtle.

Among my favorite bits: Doescher's insertion of a "those two guys" scene in which a couple of policemen debate whether or not traveling in time can alter the future, with one holding to the "butterfly" theory and the other believing that time is not alterable so anything done by time travelers is what would already have been done. Extra points: the police are named Bradbury and Wells!

While I didn't love this one quite as much as the "Star Wars" books, it was still quite entertaining.

I plan to leave this book on a table at the rear entrance to the restaurant on this rainy night; hope someone enjoys it!
