This arrived a few days ago - only just having the chance to sit down and register it. Thank you very much. It looks very different from what I usually read, but I shall give it a go. I'm so out of touch - never heard of it, but it won the Man Booker prize.

Although this is written in prose, it feels as though it lingers in a place between prose and poetry. And although I've read it and found it moody and melancholic, as I'm not a fan of poetry and don't have the patience for it, I feel that some levels of this book have been wasted on me. But it is good to try different things now and then, and I don't think I would have ever given this book a go had not a friend sent it to me as a surprise.

This book is a musings on all things white - clue in the title. There's not a lot of words in it, essentially a paragraph a page most of the time, with thoughts on something white. There are themes and storylines running through, in particular for me is the author thinking about her older sister, who died when she was only two hours old. And the bizarre thought that had that sister lived, their mother wouldn't have continued having children for as long as she did, so the author wouldn't have been born. It is a sad, reflective book.
