These poems are accessible without being overly-familiar or "dumbed down". For example, Elizabeth Bishop's "Sestina" paints a vivid portrait of an old grandmother and a child sharing the pleasures of jokes from the Farmer's Almanac while the rain falls, in "Follower" Seamus Heaney offers up a tribute to his father and our mortality, the musicality of Sylvia Plath's " Alicante Lullaby" is overwhelming. The climax for me is e.e. cummings' masterwork "somewhere I have never travelled, gladly beyond", a poem I've shared with many appreciative readers over the years, even those who claim not to like poetry. But you will doubtless discover your own favorite clutch of poems. An anthology to treasure.
