Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
5 journalers for this copy...
I received this book from Paperback Swap. I know that this book is a classic, so I thought that I would try it out... not really my cup of tea. The story drags on and on, and didn't really hold my attention.
I will reserve this book for the Science Fiction bookbox once it arrives.

Taken out of the sci-fi box
Too many books, so this one is going into the Otherworldly box
A classic that I haven't read yet.
Adding to Mt. Toobie.
Edited to add: I've changed my mind about keeping this one as I've just noticed that it is an "abridged" copy. :(

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Off in the bookbox.
I'm claiming this softcover from the Otherworldly bookbox, for another release copy. [I do prefer unabridged to abridged versions, but having listened to the unabridged version of this one on audiobook I concede that it might be improved by the truncation of some of the more tedious lists-of-things sections {wry grin}.]
I do recommend it, abridged or not; it's certainly one of the foundation novels of SF in general, never mind of the steampunk genre!
Verne was one of the fathers of science fiction, and while some aspects of his stories seem dated others are still intriguing; and of course his character Captain Nemo has become one of the great fictional characters of all time, showing up as a reference or sometimes in person in a great many other works. And despite all this literary heritage, it's still a ripping good yarn in its own right - even if, at times, it seems that Professor Aronnax really wants to itemize every single fish, plant, and cephalopod in the world's oceans! (The abridgement seems to spare us most of those, but the original is available at Project Gutenberg if one wants to check out the entire text.)
[For fun and trivia, there's an extensive TV Tropes page on the book, with some notes on the campy-but-fun 1954 film adaptation.]

Super, just finished this book. I never read science fiction but when I saw this classic in the book box little library in my son’s playground, I thought that I’d like to read that. It was beautifully written. I enjoyed the language so much! Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
