A fun, nostalgic read. I will be adding one or two books to my wishlist shortly.
I’ll probably take this to the Leeds meetup on Saturday.

Greetings and a Very Happy Yorkshire Day to Deltic, Mrs D and shedwards. (You see, I hadn't forgotten the date, although I am still a relative newcomer, only 34 years in residence here!)
Thank you very much for the books, card and postcard that the postman brought this morning. This looks like something I'll love! A lovely surprise :-)

I have to break into my reading to quote this superb example of the author's quirky writing style:
" . . . my mother cleaved immovably to the belief that wanting to be anything more than decently covered by burlap sacking was a sign of moral depravity and shopped for our wardrobe accordingly. I was twenty-five before I owned an outfit that I liked. I didn't wear it. I'd never go that far." (p148)
I love it - and it's not even about books . . .

I found this fascinating rather than totally absorbing, probably because of the generational divide.
Funnily enough, I'm not familiar with many of the books she writes about, and disagree with her about some of those I have read, but was interested in which she had to say anyway. I enjoyed her way with words and ideas!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
In the post and heading North . . . enjoy :-)
Arrived in Co. Durham so thank you very much for sending it my way and am looking forward to reading this book soon.
As much as I am a bookworm myself , sadly this book did not quite resonate with me as I would have liked and I skipped over a lot of it. Simple enough explanation as I grew up in Germany with different books in my childhood but of course I share her main sentiment that " any book is better than no book". I'm also pleased to see that my 5 year old nephew loves reading as much as I do .
