I read this book in one sitting one day when I was home from work sick. I had heard that this book was up-lifting and life affirming. I didn't feel that it was, but maybe that was just my feeling.

Eddie is a grizzled war veteran who feels trapped in a meaningless life fixing amusement park rides at a seaside amusement park. The hype for this book said that he learns that he did have a profound impact on the lives of 5 other people who he meets when he gets to heaven. Kind of like "It's a Wonderful Life".

The message I got from the book wasn't that positive, but I won't inflict it on you. I'm a person who "never made anything of myself"- and I found that book profoundly depressing. I'll be interested in hearing what others think.
