This was a wishlist book gifted to me by Book_drunkard for Christmas.
*************
From Amazon.com/back of book:

Three years after her husband Max's death, Shelley feels no more adjusted to being a widow than she did that first terrible day. That is, until the doorbell rings. Standing on her front step is a young man who looks so much like Max–same smile, same eyes, same age, same adorable bump in his nose–he could be Max's long-lost relation. He introduces himself as Paolo, an Italian editor of American coffee table books, and shows Shelley some childhood photos. Paolo tells her that the man in the photos, the bearded man who Paolo says is his grandfather though he never seems to age, is Max. Her Max. And he is alive and well.

As outrageous as Paolo's claims seem–how could her husband be alive? And if he is, why hasn't he looked her up? – Shelley desperately wants to know the truth. She and Paolo jet across the globe to track Max down–if it is really Max– and along the way, Shelley recounts the European package tour where they had met. As she relives Max's stories of bloody Parisian barricades, medieval Austrian kitchens, and buried Roman boathouses, Shelley begins to piece together the story of who her husband was and what these new revelations mean for her "happily ever after." And as she and Paolo get closer to the truth, Shelley discovers that not all stories end where they are supposed to.

So... I finally got around to reading this one. I have to admit, the plot on back of book was what got me wanting to read it.
Started it and was intrigued.... 60 pages later, it was time for bed (hubby and I wake up early for work). I have to admit, I tossed and turned all night!!! Could not get the characters and their stories out of my mind!! Needless to say I finished this book the next day.

WOW I don't even know what to say without giving the story away. Each character brings something to the story and without them it would be incomplete.

Of course, not everyone will find this book as enchanting and intriguing as I, but i hope you at least give it a chance.

Raying it for others to enjoy!

Received in the mail today (May 20, 2019)...thanks Josierivers for the book that will be sent onto the next reader in this Book Ray. Love the cover with the book acting as a cover itself. Looking forward to reading it and sending it on.

9.5 since I can't tell whether the ending was happily ever after or not. One minute I think yes, the following minute I think otherwise.

Intriguing concept...a love story, historical stories, adventure story, and chickens and eggs.

Max Gallus runs a unique tour, and he and a few others including Shelley go on one. Going from the present day to the past and back again, the story of Max, Shelley, and countless others is told.

What is the meaning of life, death, and love?

Rather than put in any spoilers since this is a book ray, I will only post these few remarks. Thanks josierivers for allowing me the opportunity to read it. Will be passing it on to dvg and let her discover the magic of this book.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I, too, couldn’t tell whether the ending was happily ever after or not. I choose happily ever after.

It is a love story with adventure along with chickens and baked eggs throughout. It has touches of humor like, “Shelley made do with a breakfast of burned toast slathered with trans-fat-free disappointment.”

Max running his unique historical tour and Shelley decides to join in the fun. This story bounces from present day to past but it is not confusing. It is such an enjoyable read, so beautifully written that I did not want to put it down. I finished it in about three days. I wanted to know what was going to happen next to the characters. I so enjoyed each part of their tour and the story that was woven by Max to his tour group as well as the author’s writing style.
I hope to read more by this author. Thank you JosieRivers for sharing this with me.

This will begin its journey to time-traveler today.

I received this bookray book in the mail today, thanks to dvg and especially josierivers for organizing this ray. It's been a while since I participated in a book ray and I'm happy to see familiar names here!

My kind of book! Thanks for starting this ray, josierivers! I wouldn't have heard of or read it otherwise. However, I admit I sometimes had a hard time keeping totally focused on the story - there were a lot of characters and I felt the flipping back and forth in time wasn't as smooth as I would have liked ~ but I am very glad I read it.

Off to Dove-i-Librib it goes, I'll post in the forum once it's shipped.

PS - I also believe the ending is a happily-ever-after one.

Hi, everyone! Book arrived safe and sound, and I started to read it even as I was unwrapping it. Unfortunately, real life interfered in the form of my coworker leaving for early maternity leave and I haven't got a chance to get back to it. We'll have a fill-in after the weekend, so I see this book being on its way again by the end of next week! I was totally intrigued by the first few chapters, though, and can't wait to get back to it! I'm not seeing the mailing list, so please let me know who's next on the bookray! Thanks!

Oh, and, THANK YOU very much to time-traveler for the extra little goodies in the package with the book!

OH! I see! It's on the library sign-out card! How cute! I will send to our hostile friend book_drunkard next! LOL!

August 16, 2019: OK, sort of predictable twist, if that's not too much of an oxymoron. But nicely done. Will be sent off to our friendly book_drunkard this weekend!!!
