Book burble: 'A tough, edgy thriller.' WILEY CASH
‘Carefully paced and skilfully plotted . . . Henry Farrell [is] truly one on the most likeable and dedicated law officers in the history of crime fiction. I loved every word of it.’ DONALD RAY POLLOCK

When an elderly recluse discovers a corpse on his land, Officer Henry Farrell follows the investigation to strange places in the countryside, and into the depths of his own frayed soul.

In Wild Thyme, Pennsylvania, secrets and feuds go back generations. The lone policeman in a small township on the sparse northern border, Henry Farrell expected to spend his mornings hunting and fishing, his evenings playing old-time music. Instead, he has watched the dual encroachment of fracking companies and drug dealers bring money and troubles to the area. As a second body turns up, Henry's search for the killer opens old wounds and dredges up ancient crimes which some people desperately want to keep hidden.

In these derelict woods, full of whitetail deer and history, the hunt is on...

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Bought from MacDonald Road Library, [Edinburgh] sale table to be registered with BookCrossing. Another of my book releases planned for INTERNATIONAL BOOKCROSSING DAY 2019 – Sunday 21st April – This book is to be left ‘in-the-wild’ beside an outdoor sculpture; on a window sill; at a bus-stop or perhaps handed directly to another reader in Central Edinburgh!!!
OK that was ‘THE PLAN’… However, I was exceptionally tempted to read it… so did!
---------------------

Glorious descriptive writing, Bowman’s created an astounding portrait of a rural community, that rings true with a crystal quality that invites respect, as opposed to pity, for the townsfolk living in straitened circumstances. And in the creation of the reserved Henry Farrell as a plain spoken and observant man Bowman gives us a fascinating character that compels interest. There’s stunning plotting here which just unfolds like stop-motion animation of a complex origami flower returning to flat paper. You cannot unfix your attention from where Bowman is, without fuss, leading you.

“With vivid characters and flawless pacing, Tom Bouman immerses readers in this changing landscape.” Quote from somewhere I forgot to note, no matter I agree, especially on the pacing issue! Brilliant! More from this author please!

Has this been serialised for the wee screen yet I wonder? If not why not as it could provide a vivid portrait of rural America that would be enlightening to some and familiar in practical terms to many from different countries, plus there are roles here that could enhance any actors repertoire.

Apologies, this book has been waiting in a pile of birthday books which in turn were awaiting labels (and some reviews) to be completed. This, however, was one of those which required a label - now remedied. Apologies and off to Mr Flutterbies9's tbr of birthday books etc.

Found in a bag of books which Mr Flutterbies 9 said he had read. Unfortunately he did not recall much about this at all except for the cover! Sorry. Sending out in a bookbox for further adventures.
