"The Cemetery of Secrets is an atmospheric mystery by the bestselling author of The Killing, David Hewson.
In the ancient burial ground of San Michele on an island off Venice, a young woman’s casket is prised open, an object wrenched from her hands, and an extraordinary story begins.
Young academic Daniel Forster arrives in Venice working for the summer in the library of a private collector. When his employer sends him to buy a stolen violin from a petty thief, he ignites a chain of violence, deception, intrigue and murder. Daniel is drawn into the police investigation surrounding a beautiful woman, a mysterious palazzo and a lost musical masterpiece dating back to 1733.

Separated by centuries, two tales of passion, betrayal and danger collide transporting the reader from the intrigue of Vivaldi’s Venice to the gritty world of a modern detective. From the genius of prodigy to the greed of a killer, The Cemetery of Secrets builds to a shattering crescendo – and one last, breathtaking surprise.

Previously titled Lucifer's Shadow."

Thank you for the book. I am very happy to be part of your celebration. The description of the book already draws me in. I will try to start reading soon and get the book moving again.

So happy to be part of your celebratory bookray. This is the first time I am reading David Hewson and it will not be the last. I hope his other books are as good. I was hooked by the introduction, and then the book slowed down a bit, but as the story developed, it became hard to put down. I enjoyed the book a lot and loved both the past and present story lines and how everything ties together. I was transported into this world of secrets.

Thanks mcsar for sending along this book all the way from Canada. It arrived this morning with a cute little card and is next in line as soon as I finish my current read.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I wasn't crazy about this novel. I thought it took way too long to get really started, and found the quasi-metronomical going back and forth between the present and past stories boring after a while. Nice twist at the end though, which I hadn't seen coming.

I posted the book to Florence71 this morning.

Florence, you're the best!
Just when we started to show heavy withdrawal signs (our holiday in France has already been weeks ago ) you send us a little bit of this country to enjoy :-)
Merci !!

Ah yes, and the book has arrived, too :-)
We will see whether it is my cup of tea ( with a nice little Madeleine...mmmh)

Edit to say that I am also having a bit of a hard time with this book. I am also at the moment a bit stressed out (being a musician around Christmas is NOT an easy thing!!) so I tend to read lighter fiction. I hope it is ok to keep the book for a while - I still would like to read it - but it might take a few more weeks...

Sorry to say - I give up.
I just can't get into this story and it is already so bleak and depressing.
I don't need that at this time of the year.
So I asked LilyKlip for her address - hope the book has better chances there!

Edit: haven't heard from Lilyklip so far, tried again today (Jan. 17th)

Since Liliyklip wants to be skipped this book heads now to Switzerland..
I am curious what you'll think of it!

This is a ray - so ..

Journal Entry 14 by wingpenelopewanderswing at Hasliberg, Bern / Berne Switzerland on Tuesday, March 3, 2020
This has arrived safely in the Swiss Alps where it lines up behind the current rather dry non-fiction I am reading, and another hopefully peppier ring. I have the impression this is not in a big rush?? Hope not as it’s busy times here, although holidays are looming at the end of the month, yay! (But if I need to hurry it, please let me know).
Thanks for the bookcrossing label - nice, and decidedly spiffier than the hand-colored ones I tape into the books I register.
Thanks for sending and for making this book available.
