A grisly murder is committed at a health resort situated in a recently renovated farmhouse, which turns out to be notorious for being haunted. Attorney Thora Gudmundsdottir is called upon by the owner of the resort - the prime suspect in the case - to represent him. Her investigations uncover some very disturbing occurrences at the farm decades earlier - things that have never before seen the light of day...

This is the second book featuring Thora, the Icelandic lawyer cum investigator. This book begins with a wrenching prologue that haunts you for the rest of the book. The family relationships here are a little bit complicated. At one point I was wishing I had started a family tree to keep track. Plus there are lots of red herrings to confuse you further.

This didn't live up to the hype IMHO. I didn't find it scary at all and it seemed most unlikely that Thora would be able to interfere so much with a police investigation. Also she didn't seem to care much about her children so I didn't really like her very much.
