By the year 2045, immortality is a reality.
Well,, more or less. the human mind can be scanned and downloaded into virtual environments. The resulting 'Copies', virtual people, with their memories and identities intact, can live forever, dependent only on the stability of world computer nets. Which makes them vulnerable.
Paul Durham has a vision: the creation of an untouchable virtual sanctuary. Obsessed with virtual and artificial life, and with what he believes is a new understanding of the nature of consciousness, he does not dream of anything as mundane as a profit.
He might be mad. Then again he might not.
Paul Durham's vision could let him step beyond the boundaries of the human mind, and into eternity...
