If I could give zero stars I would. First of all, a few disclaimers. I really struggle to find translated works that I enjoy and this is translated, so that was one strike against it for me already. Also, this book is NOTHING like the Disney movie. And maybe I ought not to have expected it to be anything at all like the Disney movie, but I did... so there you go.
On top of that, the prose was dull, the plot contained almost no action, and there were plodding infodumps about such things as flaura and fauna, construction methods, animal husbandry, etc. Then add in the Christian moralizing, the patriarchal nature of the family system (the wife and mother was never even referred to by her first name, just "my wife" or "the mother"!), and the animal cruelty. I do realize that it was written in a different time and culture, but it has certainly not aged well.
I could probably go on, but suffice it to say that this one was not for me!
