A wonderful book set mainly in the Brazilian Amazon. Maia, an orphan, is sent to live with distant relatives in Brazil, where she befriends a young actor and another orphan, a mixed race English/indigenous boy. Powerful themes around race, belonging and family- a must read. I’ll be adding this author to my wish list!!
