This is the first book of a trilogy of really strange mysteries. Manon Bradshaw is a cold-case investigator with a normally boring job until one day, when she is walking with her four-year old and runs across a body hanging from a tree. Is this a suicide or murder?

If you think that slavery is something that happened in the 19th century in the United States and has disappeared during that century, this book might let you know that you are mistaken. You will find that not all slaves were of African descent either. Evil still lurks in many populations in the world.

This book educated me to the term “Dunning-Kruger effect” .(truly stupid people are too stupid to realize they are stupid). They don’t know what they don’t know. All you need is to “feel that you are right”. Then, you can go off and express your half-baked opinions as loudly as you like. Just don’t stand neat anyone actually knowledgeable. If you are stupid, the vast hinterland of what you don’t know is not glimpsed by you, so you can proceed with utter confidence.
