I got this ex-library hardcover from Better World Books, along with the Spanish-language version El Gran Capoquero. It's a beautifully illustrated fable about the plants and wildlife of the rain forest, centered around a man who's come to cut down a huge kapok tree. Exhausted from his efforts after barely making a dent in the trunk, he drowses off to sleep - and the birds, beasts, and insects gather around to observe him and whisper to him about the appalling results of felling the rainforest trees. Finally a native child approaches and the man wakes - startled to see the child and all the creatures gathered around him. Entranced by the watchful yet nonthreatening creatures and the luscious perfumes of the flowers, he leaves his axe behind and walks away...
