I got this handsome hardcover at a local Goodwill thrift shop. It contains the original story that inspired the popular ballet, with illustrations and an introduction by Maurice Sendak. It's great fun, but also creepy in places - the full-page illustration of the rat-king is spooky, and there's one more "GAHHHH!!!" moment at the end of the book involving a closeup of the Nutcracker's face that made me jump {wry grin}.
