I got this handsome hardcover at a local Goodwill thrift shop. It's illustrated with paintings by Gregory Alexander.
This book contains the tales from the first Jungle Book (including "The White Seal" and "Rikki-tikki-tavi"). I've loved the Jungle Book stories about Mowgli and his friends almost since I can remember; in fact I think it was the first book I read all the way through and then started back at the beginning again (this would have been at about age 8). I wanted to go hang out with Kaa and Bagheera - heck, sometimes I still do... The language is beautiful, the jungle imagery wondrous (though often suitably harsh), and Mowgli a compelling hero. I still get a delicious shiver from passages such as this one, after Kaa has rescued Mowgli, Baloo, and Bagheera from the Bandar-log, and is about to take his reward from the vanquished:
[There's a TV Tropes page for the book and its adaptations, with some entertaining tidbits.]

"The python dropped his head lightly for a minute on Mowgli's shoulder. 'A brave heart and a courteous tongue,' said he. 'They shall carry thee far through the Jungle, Manling. But now go hence quickly with thy friends. Go and sleep, for the moon sets, and what follows it is not well that thou shouldst see.'"
