Received as part of ring. Fourth in line to be read - clearly, I signed up for a few too many bookrings in one swell foop, which is part of why I've been avoiding the forums (fora?) lately - I don't dare get involved in anything else till I'm caught up, and I won't catch up if I spend hours a day in Chit-Chat.

Release planned for Friday, July 16, 2004 at Post Office in By Post, By Post Controlled Releases.

Sending this along to fanclub, since I never got a response to my PMs from janaqq. If you're out there, janaqq, please PM fanclub to get back into the roster!

Arrived in today's mail and goes to the top of the TBR pile, since I'm almost finished with my current read! :)

Blarg. I read this today in one sitting, as it is a fairly quick read. And I hated it. The reason is because there was not one single substantiated claim in the whole book. The author randomly quotes sources without identifying them, uses dialogue out of context, includes no footnotes, and cites not one single reference in the entire book. Not one. Any moron with a computer can find detailed citations on the Internet. This guy just kinda goes harping on about how evil they are, gives some "testimony" from anonymous sources, cites articles very loosely (there is one point where he says "this clipping was sent to me by a reader, from an unknown paper, but it sure looks like the Wall Street Journal!" Hubba wha?). Some of the information that he includes may very well be true (although some of it is, at best, selective: my mother-in-law has worked at Wal-Mart for many years, and could attest that some of the claims about how employees are treated are exagerrated, downright false, or perhaps they unfortunately occured to some individuals -- but certainly not the norm), but without validating anything he says (as any professional writer would do), it all sounds like the ravings of a fanatic. I do not hold Wal-Mart to be a shining beacon of corporate citizenry, but the author was unable to provide me with any evidence that they are in, in fact, the devils workers on Earth.

Mailing this off to jas330 tomorrow.

I recieved this book about a week ago and never journaled it, but the good news is I'm already done with it.
It was informative...but it was as good as I thought. Maybe because I don't have a Wal-Mart in town so I can't agree with what's going on. Though they are planning on putting one in soon.
Will be on to the next reader soon.
