If the Kids Are United

If the Kids Are United is the memoir of a pre-glory days Manchester United fan growing up a fair distance from Old Trafford; it's the story of a village that was once home to legendary punk club the Grey Topper (now a lampshade factory); and an account of growing up in a once-thriving mining community in the wilderness years of Thatcher's Britain (while trying to get hold of Cup Final tickets). Part Kes, part Boys From The Blackstuff, and by turns impassioned, bleak and hilarious, it mines the rich seam of British working-class literature.
