…falling in love can be a slippery slope… The ski season. A glamorous world of snowy pistes, gorgeous ski instructors and glittering apres-ski nightlife. What's not to love? Quite a lot, thinks Millie Braythorpe.

Four months of endless bed-making and cooking for guests have taken their toll, and the only thing she really looks forward to is her nightly gig singing in a little French bar. Then handsome troublemaker Luke comes to stay at her chalet, and before she knows it Millie's head over heels in love. But is Luke to be trusted, or is her Alpine romance destined to end in heartbreak?

On the book back ‘Romance fiction is back, ‘Definitely more Sex and the City than Mills and Boon’ Elle magazine

NOPE more like grade A M&B. Jumping to the wrong conclusion being a perfectly reasonable, unreasonable activity for star struck lovers! Too many sweeping generations and clichés snapping, too obviously, into place faster than you could say ski-resort…

Don’t get me wrong I have met a number of Little Black Book romances that I enjoyed a whole lot because of their humour, and this might have been one of them had there been some super snappy humour and had I not disliked the disconnect between the early 1980s style plot and the shoehorning in of snowboarding, computers and sweary bits to feisty it up a bit plus yank it into the 21 Century. Lace notably included likable and unlikeable characters, to attract our attention though unfortunately, I didn’t take to hunky journalist who we are introduced to as he’s explaining to a colleague he was perfectly justified in highlighting an embarrassing photo of a female celebrity as it was her own fault she was so drunk! He’s the guy we’re supposed to admire, really! I don’t think so.

An early work, I checked, for this author and though missing a briskly blunt modernising edit otherwise this may work for some, we have the unjustly victimised heroine, gross misunderstanding and tragic heartbreak, all of which spell romance.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Dropped into OQO Cafe, Leith Walk, [near Edinburgh Central, SCOTTISH YOUTH HOSTEL] on a late Sunday afternoon in chilly February, treated myself to a yummy Carrot & Ginger soup, which really warmed as did the friendly staff – picking from a pleasing selection of wicked treats I indulged with a peanut butter chocolate brownie, enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in this fabulous City centre location and will definitely be returning and happy days OQO Café is open from 8 till 8 so that offers lots of visiting opportunities! Still had this book in hand so released it here onto a bookshelf on the back wall.

Journal Entry 5 by wingrainbow3wing at Church Hill Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Sunday, March 31, 2019

Released 5 yrs ago (3/30/2019 UTC) at Church Hill Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Noticed the other day this book was still sitting on the shelf at the lovely OQO Café so I took it away to offer it another venue opportunity for being ‘FOUND’ and taken travelling!!!

Pleased to take the time to release this book at Church Hill Theatre 33 Morningside Road, yesterday afternoon, at the last production this season of Cavalleria Rusticana put on by EDINBURGH GRAND OPERA. So after an afternoon session of “Sicilian passion, jealousy, honour and tragedy”, played out against a “score of beauty and intensity, famous for its grand symphonic intermezzo”, one visitor was also able to leave with a book!

Enjoy – and please see some brief introductory notes on BookCrossing in the journal entry above, Cheers rainbow3.
