I've enjoyed several of these tiny, beautifully-illustrated hardcover cookbooks. I got this one from Better World Books. It includes recipes from many different cultures, each of which contributed to the Brazil of today, from Portuguese explorers to Africans brought to Brazil as slaves, and including elements from the indigenous peoples. There's a simple recipe for an okra salad that sounds lovely - I do like okra, and grow some in my garden, but have always thought of it as a vegetable for use in stews or as a savory side dish. Will have to try the lightly-pickled salad version! There's a recipe for the national meal, Feijoada Completa, which features seven different meats (!), and has some tantalizing side dishes as well. And there's a recipe for a dessert based on avocados, where they're mashed up with lime or lemon juice and some sugar... Might try that too, though I love avocados plain as a tasty snack.
