The Girl Who Stopped Swimming
3 journalers for this copy...
I started to read this in late 2011 or 2012, and for some reason, never finished. If I'm remembering right, I peeked ahead and saw the way the subplot with Bet ended, and it angered me at the time! But it stuck with me, even as it languished forgotten and buried in my closet, and even after I forgot its name and started to want to find it and give it another try... I actually posted about it on whatwasthatbook on Livejournal (beware, spoilers!), trying to remember the title so I could order it from the library and read it again. And then today, when I was searching for another book (that I didn't end up finding), I came across my own copy again. So now it's going back on my TBR pile - I'll actually finish it this time!
So glad I gave this book another chance! I had a strong hunch I'd end up liking it quite a bit, and I was right. The only thing that makes me pause is the stereotypical, flat portrayal of DeLop and its people (everyone there has completely given up on life in all ways, and all the parents are drug-addled and neglectful?), but the book is told from Laurel's POV and she's not the most reliable of narrators, so I can forgive that.
Taking this to today's meeting of the Boston Bookcrossers.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left at a cute Little Free Library. Hope someone will find it and make a journal entry!
I enjoyed it, especially for a lite summer read. Worth reading - yes, there are a few stereotypes, but the idea is a bit different and the characters interesting.
I found the book at the Little Free Library in Cambridge, MA, when I was visiting my daughter in late June. It is now in the wild in Heber City Free Library.
