I got this ex-library softcover from Better World Books. It tells the story of how the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac were matched to specific years in the cycle - in the order in which they arrived to a party. (The rat got there first, by cheating a bit.) And it includes the tale of how the cat never made it (the rat neglected to wake him up), leading to the eternal battle between cats and rats. There are examples of the different character traits associated with each animal and those born in its years of the cycle, and it's rather fun. (See the manga Fruits Basket for a story themed on the zodiac animals, including the cat!)

I left this book in the Little Free Library; hope someone enjoys it!
