I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble today, attracted by the rather sparse art-style and post-apocalyptic setting. The main characters eke out a living on the surface of a huge, frozen planet, where they were exiled after losing a war with the inhabitants of the interior. When a strange girl appears on the surface and tells one of the scavenging crews to take the McGuffin to a special place - and keep it out of the hands of the Emperor - the conflict begins, with enemy forces attacking. It seems that the survivors have a kind of cyborg/undead capability, where they turn corpse-like under stress, but can be restored with the right treatment - it's very, very eerie to look at, not least because everyone seems used to it by now...

I found the story a bit thin, but the artwork and environment is quite evocative.

[There's a TV Tropes page on its author, with some entertaining tidbits.]
