I've enjoyed many of Sacks' books, and ordered this little hardcover when I found it was his last one. It's actually a collection of essays that he wrote near the end of his life, touching on many things - from his fascination with chemical elements (he celebrates his birthdays by associating them with the elements whose atomic numbers match his age) to his late-life relationship with author Bill Hayes (whose photos of Sacks illustrate this book). I’m a waitress at the 110 where this collection of essays was left. I was actually on vacation at the time of the drop but my coworkers hung onto it for me until I got back (they know how big of a bookworm I am). It’s a crazy coincidence that this should fall into my hands as I’ve been spending the past month reading books and writing about life, death, and the universe. It’s now getting passed around the rest of the waitstaff. Once everyone who wants to read it does, I’ll post an update of where I leave it.
