This would be terrific for a book club discussion, because there's a lot of points at which one of the three main characters stumble. Arguably, Saskia's behaviour is the worst, but I found myself condemning Patrick the most harshly.

The reason is probably my expectations about stalking. To me, the most common example is the male who thinks "I want her, so she belongs to me," and is furious at anyone who can't see such simple logic. But there's a flip side, which is "I don't want her, so she doesn't exist." We find out that Patrick has treated Saskia very badly, without thinking of how this affects her, or even his son Jack. It's no surprise that he never even notices she continues to show up for Jack's soccer games. Faced with such oblivion from the man, and traumatic separation from his son, both of whom still loves, she goes overboard. Way overboard, but it took a long time for her to go beyond my initial sympathy.

This is very well written, an easy and fun read. Also, Moriarty does a clever job of interweaving the stories of Saskia and Ellen. Since this book will go to the winner of the 2019 Australian Literature Sweepstakes, I'm pleased that there was a generous helping of Australian content, especially geography and vocabulary. In fact, the closing scene is a beautiful image at the Sydney Opera House, one of the most recognizable and (IMHO) beautiful buildings on the planet.

So that's one person's opinion. Future readers, what do YOU think?

Found this book on a lovely walk with my wife today. Had never heard of book crossing but it sounds great. I've not read the book yet but whatever the read is like it was such a delightful surprise to just find a book hanging from a tree! It's in safe hands now and will continue its journey in due course.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Free to a good home! Served as a good holiday read and a departure from what I would normally read, but having found a free book in a tree I thought it would be rude not to read it! Looking forward to see where it ends up.
