The Most Beautiful Walk in the World

Found in the Valentin bookbox, looks good
Not what I expected (i.e. it does not map out good walks in Paris), but a very entertaining introduction to the Ville Lumière by an Australian writer married to a French woman, living in rue de l'Odéon and who leads literary and gourmet tours. I felt at home in these pages, which incidentally include forays into Los Angeles, London, Vienna and Australia, and even noted a few places that I must see next time (that tile-covered building and the Marché d'Aligre, for a start). As it was published in 2011, a few things are out of date (I always relied on Pariscope for my visits but alas, it no longer exists). Last time I was in the Cour du Commerce St-André the building with the tower was a cultural centre, Spanish, I think... I must correct the author on the trees of Place Furstemberg, they are paulownias, not chestnuts. A couple of typos in the French, and he confuses alley and allée: une allée is more an avenue than an alley, which would be a ruelle, cf. l'Allée du Roi which is the King's Walk in Versailles.
Rue de l'Odéon (number 10) has had a special significance for me since 1969 and I walk up and down it at least once on every visit. It is not "the most beautiful walk" for me, which would probably be early morning on Ile St-Louis, but beautiful is very subjective.
An excellent companion for any English-speaker visiting Paris for the first time.

a wishlist book for someone in the oppem birthday group.
Thank you for the book and all the goodies in the most excellent parcel. I love everything you picked and I appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. I have not the chance to visit Paris yet but I am already in love with the city. For now, I will very happily read about it.
