I have been looking (quite unsuccessfully) for a copy of this book to bookcross, and my husband came through for me by finding this one!

Chinese New Year is coming up and we're going into the year of the boar, so I want to release this in celebration of the new year. It's been a long time since I've read this book but I remember liking it in the past. As a woman who played ball competitively while she was growing up, it's probably not surprising that I liked the book about a little girl who loves baseball.

I am hoping to re-read this before I let it go, and maybe even to get Chris (Husband) to read it with me. We have several hours worth of driving to do over the next couple of weekends (he's always the driver) so maybe he'll let me read it to him in the car :)

I finished reading this aloud to Chris while he was driving this afternoon. For me, it was good to re-read this as I'd only read it once, about a decade ago. It was also nice to be able to share this touching, endearing, funny book with my husband.

My husband can be a man of few words when he wants to be, but I think he enjoyed this book overall. We had some pretty good laughs at some parts. When I asked Chris what he thought of the book after I finished reading, he said "It was pretty good... There were a lot of feels."

I think that the review from SLJ that's printed on the back of the book is fairly apt: "This poignant but often outrageously humorous story shows a child's problems of adjusting to a new country and coming out on top. The book is in a league by itself-- and Shirley Temple Wong is a winner all the way."

On Monday night we plan to attend the Lunar New Year Countdown at Pacific Mall in Markham, either with friends or just together, and I am hoping to release this book at that event.

Released 5 yrs ago (2/5/2019 UTC) at Pacific Mall in Markham, Ontario Canada

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I released this book at Pacific Mall about 5-10 minutes before the New Year. I'd gone upstairs to use the washroom and I left this book by the Lucky Bridge on my way back down, just as the lion dance was getting set to begin. I propped it up against a rock on the little garden wall just to the right of the bridge, if you're walking from the escalator.

If you've found this book, thanks for picking it up and checking out its journal! If you're new to bookcrossing, welcome. We'd love it if you'd stick around with us a while. I really hope that you enjoy both this book and the whole bookcrossing experience!

This book was released as part of a few Release Challenges here on bookcrossing. It was released as part of the "Asian Zodiac/Year of the Boar" Release Challenge; it was also released as part of the 2019 "52 Towns in 52 Weeks" Release Challenge (Markham was Town #3 for me); and finally, it was released in memory of a little girl named Becky (known as N-R-Jyzer here on bookcrossing) who passed away as the result of an accident while riding her bike. This book has been released as part of the "Becky's Hugs" Release Challenge which Becky's father has set up in her honour (please visit http://www.BeckysHugs.com if you'd like more information about this).
