Here is Kate Atkinson at her most profound and inventive, in a novel that celebrates the best and worst of ourselves.
What if you had the chance to live your life again and again, until you finally got it right?
During a snowstorm in England in 1910, a baby is born and dies before she can take her first breath.
During a snowstorm in England in 1910, the same baby is born and lives to tell the tale.
What if there were second chances? And third chances? In fact an infinite number of chances to live your life? Would you eventually be able to save the world from its own inevitable destiny? And would you even want to?
Life After Life follows Ursula Todd as she lives through the turbulent events of the last century again and again. With wit and compassion, she finds warmth even in life's bleakest moments, and shows an extraordinary ability to evoke the past.

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing February meet-up. The premise sounds amazing; I just had to snatch it up.

This was a delightful read. I had tried to read another book with a similar premise - the protagonist dies numerous times and starts life over - but this book was much easier to get in to. I think it helps that Ursula doesn't remember these past lives. She has inklings and it's enough to change events here and there, but she's not weighed down with all of this foreknowledge. The book really just follows Ursula as she goes from lifetime to lifetime and there's no grand scheme to change history because of some huge catastrophe. There were times where it was a little hard to keep track of Ursula's various timelines, but that's okay. That's the fun of time travel.

It would be perplexing to have a memory of having lived your life before. Then to start changing things so that you can live longer. You keep getting swept back to the "dark and stormy night birth story" then you may not get swept back as far as you had been as you'd been able to solve more things. You had to keep hitting "restart' button in your brain. Complex story but my brain could actually follow it!
Read the e version of this from the library while on holidays.
