Rachel has three grown up sons, who have left home and married, Ralph to Petra who was first taken in by the family. When Ralph loses his job and things go wrong between Ralph and Petra, Rachel realises she no longer has her little boys that she can control.
Great book. Joanna Trollope is excellent at characterisation.

A typical Joanna Trollope offering, with the complexities of human character and relationships well observed and well drawn. I wasn't entirely convinced by the eventual resolution, but this was a very enjoyable read.
