Finished this book today and I'm so glad that I took the time to read the words of this thoughtful, honest, strong and inspiring American woman, former First Lady Michelle Obama. Through her words I was drawn into her life as she grew up on the South Side of Chicago and years later became known throughout the world during her husband, Barack Obama's time as the 44th President of the United States. An inspiring account of her ongoing process in 'Becoming' filled with love, compassion and the desire to do what is best . . . always connecting with the powerful force of optimism.

This book by Michelle Obama is an inspiring memoir detailing her life from childhood right up to the present time. She tells her story honestly, straight from the heart, and I found it to be a roller coaster of emotion from tears of despair to joy and laughter, and everything in between. I learned a lot about the reality of being the first family in the United States: always in the spotlight under scrutiny, having to take care what one says and how one looks at all times, not to mention all the logistics of the required Secret Service Protection. I think that Michelle and Barack did a very good job of keeping life as normal as possible for their two daughters during their 8 years in the White House. The most enlightening information for me in Michelle's story is the reality of what it is like to grow up, and even be an adult as a black woman in the U.S. I loved this book, and loved her optimism. Michelle is to be commended for all the initiatives she undertook as First Lady. She really made a difference in the lives of many.
