I found this hefty hardcover in this Little Free Library in Westford MA while dropping off some books of my own. It's an intriguing mix of cyberpunk, magic, and a very tricky plot, where time travel is invoked in an attempt to salvage the magic that disappeared from the world at a key point in the industrial revolution. A linguistics expert trapped in Victorian London, an intelligence agent trying to retrieve her, an ancient witch surviving on the slender hope of a single conversation - and a story told in snippets of journal entries, communiques, and official reports. A bit too convoluted for my taste, but certainly very inventive, with some very funny bits here and there.
