One hundred and twenty five years ago, Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills left Melbourne in a blaze of glory on an attempt to cross the Australian continent for the first time. Their story was one of heroic dtruggle against an unknown and hostile interior, ambitious politicians, greed, inter-state rivalry and a love affair which sent a man on a dash across an untamed and unmapped land.
The book does not purport to be an accurate historical account of the Burke and Wills Expedition of 1860-61. Rather it is a dramatisation of people and events surrounding this important time in Australia's history, as suggested by the screenplay for the Hoyt's Edgley Productions film, Burke & Wills.
