This book is registered in memory of Dick and Peggy Thomas of Massachusetts. They liked to read Dylan Thomas and even named their dog Dylan, so that he could have this famous name :-) and visiting England (especially Burford, where their son lived for a time).

I got to know them through attending Harvard football games. We had quite the little group of fans which would expand when we chartered buses to attend some of the "away" games. Peggy would sing all the way home, to the delight of many and the dismay of some. Dick loved literature and having a few beers, and was known to spontaneously recite poetry. I loved his dry sense of humor.

They are missed by many.

Of all the modern holiday classics, this is perhaps the best known and best loved. In humorous, sonorous, nostalgic prose, Dylan Thomas recalls the church-going, the tree-trimming, the food, the carols and games, not of one childhood Christmas but of them all: he distills here the Perfect Dream of Christmas. For this edition, the immortal Edward Ardizzone produced 30 delightful watercolors and drawings (and if you're clever you can recognize Cardiff as the Welsh town in which the story is set) as a perfect counterpoint to Thomas's lilting words.

Thank you so much for leaving this at the Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll! My fiance used to live in Beacon Hill and we recently moved to the South End. Every winter we look forward to the Holiday Stroll, but this year was even more special as we were recently engaged!

On top of that my fiance is a High School English Teacher and I was telling her how one of my favorite holiday stories is "A Child's Christmas in Wales." I first read it during ninth grade at Catholic Memorial School here in Boston and still remember the great line "I sometimes here a moment before I sleep, that I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or twelve days and twelve nights when I was six."

As a result it was so fun finding this on the street during a Holiday Stroll that means so much to both of us. We plan on leaving it at a ski lodge during this New Year's weekend!
