Olive Kitteridge

I read this a few years ago and enjoyed it. Elizabeth Strout's writing style is very pretty. I saw that the book has been made into a movie. I may rent it sometime.

Received safely today. Thank you so much!
I really enjoyed this collection of interconnected short stories set in a small town in Maine and linked through the presence of the title character. Olive is a complex, rather prickly woman. Among my favorites were "Pharmacy," "The Piano Player," "Starving," "Winter Concert," and "Security." Strout writes very well and I would like to read more of her work.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
A wishlist RABCK. Enjoy!
Thank you for this surprise wishlist book. You are so generous. I appreciate you thinking of me.
From the start, I kept wondering what the plot was and where the sad stories were going Olive Kitteridge is not quite a novel and not quite a collection of short stories. They really go nowhere. It is about miserable, lonely, angry, vindictive people who all come from the same small place, It is more like a series of vignettes about people and events in a town in Maine. Some of these vignettes focus on Olive Kitteridge and others barely mention her, but as we read them, we learn more about Olive and how she affects others, particularly family members and how they affect her. We see how some events in her life affected her character. Olive often seemed like a mean person and she didn't apologize when she hurt others. Yet she often felt hurt by the very people she had hurt. We also see how she changes over time. It is nice to read a book about older people. I only wish they were nicer people.
Enjoy! Released for KTM, RABCK, and Allergic to "A" release challenge 2020 -- a wishlist book to another BCer to enjoy.
Thanks so much for this book! My book club just chose it tonight for next month's read!
Our book club met last night in my front yard to discuss this collection of short stories.
First of all, I wasn't expecting short stories! I was expecting a novel! So I was confused when the first story was about Olive's husband. And then when one of the stories (The Piano Player) merely mentioned Olive walking through the restaurant. But little by little it was fun to explore Olive and her town through her own eyes and through the eyes of others. She is not a kind woman. And yet.... Something let's you feel her pain.
There is apparently a 2nd book, but I'm not sure if I want that much of Olive.
Recommended!
