I got this softcover at a local Salvation Army thrift shop. It's an entertaining collection of holiday-themed mystery stories, in which James often pays homage to favorite mystery authors of times past; indeed, a couple of stories include literal shout-outs to Agatha Christie.

"The Mistletoe Murder" has a complex mystery, mused upon by a distant heir long after the fact; nice twist at the end.

"A Very Commonplace Murder" mixes elements of voyeurism with a miscarriage of justice - with a very dark twist, and a nice stinger at the end.

"The Boxdale Inheritance" features James' Adam Dalgliesh, attempting to unravel a long-past crime in order to reassure his godfather the Canon as to whether a sizeable inheritance has a stain on it. Some really lovely twists in this one - with some poignant revelations and a tidy conclusion.

"The Twelve Clues of Christmas" also features Dalgliesh, though much earlier in his career; he stumbles across a suspicious death in a snowbound country house, and manages to convince the detective in charge that the apparent suicide is nothing of the sort. This one has some charming nods to Christie, including Dalgliesh's final comment to his Aunt Jane...
