The Lewis Man

This is the second book in the Lewis trilogy and I loved it. It is more of a mystery type book than the usual police procedural type crime thriller. A body is found in a peat bog and initially thought to be too ancient for a criminal investigation but that 'hope' was soon to be dashed when a forensic test (plus an "Elvis" tattoo on his body!) ensured it could not be older than the late 1950s.
The story is told by ex-detective Fin Macleod who has recently resigned from the police force in Edinburgh and has been requested by the family of the murdered person to carry out his own private enquiries.
The story is also told by a relative of the deceased who is suffering from dementia. He has little memory of the present but frequently lapses into his memories of his childhood years which gradually leads up to the incident of murder.
A fantastic story, very depressing in parts, but so well told and so atmospheric.
