I've had this hefty softcover on my keeper shelves for years, and I think it's time it went traveling. It includes a variety of classic horror tales, some old, some relatively recent, with some of my favorites among the number. M. R. James' "The Ash-Tree" is here, and Lovecraft's "Call of Cthulhu"; Bloch's "Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper" and E. Nesbit's ghostly "John Charrington's Wedding". Russell Kirk's "There's a Long, Long Trail a-Winding" is a poignant tale of ghostly revenge and redemption, a lovely story. "Sticks" by Karl Edward Wagner is a terrifying tale of someone who encounters ghastly beings in an abandoned New England farmhouse. Manly Wade Wellman is represented by "Vandy, Vandy", one of his charming "Silver John" tales of magic and music in the Appalachians.

Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher" is here, as is Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", and Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily". And there's Edith Wharton's "Afterward," a slow-burning ghost story with a kick. And much, much more!
