You can never go back - but can you forgive? A gripping story of love and redemption.

The Brennans - parents, Finn and Bridget, and their sons, Jarrah and Toby - have made a sea change, from chilly Hobart to subtropical Murwillumbah. Feeling like foreigners in this land of sun and surf, they're still adjusting to work, school, and life in a sprawling purple weatherboard, when one morning, tragedy strikes.

In the devastating aftermath, the questions fly. What really happened? And who's to blame?

Determined to protect his family, Finn finds himself under the police and media spotlight. Guilty and enraged, Bridget spends nights hunting answers in the last place imaginable. Jarrah - his innocence lost - faces a sudden and frightening adulthood where nothing is certain.

Sixty Seconds is a haunting, redemptive story about forgiveness and hope, inspired by the author's own family experience.

'A beautiful work. One of the most moving and artistically satisfying endings I've read in a long while' Susan Johnson, Courier Mail

'An unflinching but tender exploration of what happens when the worst happens, this achingly beautiful novel broke my heart. And then put it back together' Wendy James, author of The Mistake and The Golden Child

Jesse Blackadder had an idyllic Australian childhood.

She was one of four sisters, and as a small girl, she roamed the rocky harbour beaches on Sydney’s North Shore.

One day, when Jesse was 12, the sudden death of her little sister shattered the unity of the family.

The lives of her parents went careering off in utterly new directions.

It took many years, but eventually, the family reunited.

finn and bridget and their boys have made a 'seachange' from the city of hobart to an idyllic little town on the north coast of new south wales - they've not found their place nor quite fitted in, yet, when tragedy strikes

i thought blackadder explored the vulnerability and grief response well - drawing from her own experience - i was less enamoured with some of the characters, especially 'grief counsellor' who moves into their lives, she with the ulterior motives

no matter how much we protect ourselves and our loved ones, sometimes accidents will happen - who is to blame - the parents, the family of course blame themselves and will continue to question themselves for the rest of their lives - loss is loss and the blame game really is not useful

sure let's use the incident to learn from, to change processes. rules. procedures - i am not always convinced that the law and the court system makes sense with some tragedies - life will go on every single day for this family with the reminder and the absence of what happened
