Another cookbook mystery, although the personality of the main character is more intriguing than most. Before the stories begin, she has come out of a brutal marriage with a husband who beats her. She leaves out of fear of possible future abuse of her son. Her solution of crimes, despite being told to stay out, is driven by that past abuse and the need to help other helpless victims. That makes her a little broader in purpose as a crime solver.

However, she ends up in danger at the end of each book, and then marries the local cop - just like the others, so it is somewhat pedestrian toward the end.

The recipes sound intriguing and usually involve the use of everyday ingredients, unlike some others. The author herself has done catering, and the experience tells.
