Ellen has secrets. Mostly they are the everyday sort of secrets a girls keeps: she's failing math, she's spent some of Mum's rent money on dinner, she's taken one of the school's pet rabbits home and it's run away. She's even snuck around the Home Guard and discovered a real German parachute.

Now Ellen has a much bigger secret to keep, and she faces an unsettling dilemma: could she betray a friend? And what would the neighbours do if they knew what was really going on in Besswing Yard?
