Journal Entry 3 by FortHuntLFL at Alexandria, Virginia USA on Sunday, February 16, 2020
Picked up at the BC in DC meetup. My husband and I visited Bethlehem Steel last year and learned all about the company, the process or making iron steel, and also about some of the social and cultural issues of the work force. Many of them were poor Eastern European immigrants who could not speak English, but were essentially forced into leaving their home countries where only the oldest son would inherit the family farm or the business -- younger sons got sent elsewhere. It amazes me how dangerous the work conditions were and how even with today's 'safety' equipment it's still a hazardous job.

Placing in my LFL.
