The scene is Florida, an ecologically beautiful state under the constant threat of development. A group of lobbyists, perverts, and other rather quirky people are trying to develop an island into a golf course. A furious eco-terrorist is out to stop them. This book also includes a dark but funny look at the seedy side of political lobbyists.
This book will make you aware of the struggle between those who want to preserve nature and those who want to alter it. Here, we see the preservationists as the good guys, but even though they "win" in this story, it's pretty clear they are fighting a "rearguard" type of action. The nature of the existing system is such that constant alteration is to the short-term benefit of more people than preservation is. Population pressures don't help much either. This book represents a very entertaining way to get you to think about such issues.
A remarkably fast book, action packed with lots of humor by one of my favorite authors.

I read everything! Sick Puppy was sitting on a table in the lobby of the office building where I work. I decided to save it for my Christmas vacation trip to Flagstaff, Arizona. I have read it and will leave it in the train terminal in Flagstaff when I leave.

I've only read about a third of the book, and it's amazing so far. I'm a grad student without a lot of time on my hands, but I have managed to find time for Sick Puppy, even if that means that my studies suffer. Hilarious and engrossing!
