This had quite an old fashioned feel to it, which I quite enjoyed. Certain aspects were unbelievable but that’s not unusual in crime fiction. The best thing about the book was the lack of Glasgow accents!

Picked up from the Old Gang Meeting. Just started the third book, Red Bones, so delighted to get the next one.
Ann Cleeve’s creates the claustrophobic atmosphere of a tiny northern island with enclosed natives mixing side by side with obsessed bird-watchers. The tension grows as the visitors are trapped on the island by severe weather and there is a murderer amongst them. This book also helped fill in some gaps I had in Perez’s history which I hadn’t picked up from the TV series.
Sending out in the colours bookring.
Received in Tanamo's Colour VBB. I will keep this one, and see if it is really "The definitive detective thriller"! :)
Reserved for crimson-tide as a WishList Tag book.
Sent today to crimson-tide, for the INTL Tag Game.
Enjoy! :)
Enjoy! :)

This was a much more intense read than the previous three of the series. Engaging and affecting. The storm, the smallness (in more ways than one) of the island of Fair Isle, the claustrophobic setting of the field centre, and Fran’s presence on the island with Jimmy all added to the tension. The way some of the characters behaved was not necessarily true to life, but of course they did what they did in order to serve the narrative. And humans are fickle beings, no??
