More from the Cousins' War series, this time following Anne Neville, daughter of the 'Kingmaker', the Earl of Warwick. Warwick is the man who put Edward IV on the throne, but when Edward marries Elizabeth Woodville and shuns the great alliance Warwick would have made him, Warwick turns against him and favours others for the throne. His great ambition is to have one of his daughters be queen. In fact ambition is the theme of this book, as relatives and allies are torn apart as they all fight to rule. Anne is married young to a stranger, quickly widowed, betrayed by her family and with her father gone, finally she realises that she needs to look after her own interests. It's a good read and nice to see this period portrayed through the eyes of the women.
