The cats don't talk or have any other otherworldly gifts. They just are there paying attention to what is going on. Alice Nestleton, who is "resting" between roles, is available as a cat sitter but the woman who is dropping off her cat is pushed out of the car onto the sidewalk where the chauffeur (!) puts a gun to her head and shoots her. The shooter was wearing driving goggles (!) and no one is able to describe the person in the backseat, the person who pushed the cat owner onto the sidewalk.
Two things follow this event: the "cat" is a pulltoy which also lands on the sidewalk and there is a Canadian tourist who had his camera ready and took a video of the whole thing.
