Lilywhite Abernathy is a criminal - she's half human, half fae, and since the time before she was born her very blood has been illegal. A war has been raging between humans and faeries, and the Queen of Blood and Rage, ruler of the fae courts, wants to avenge the tragic death of her heir due to the actions of reckless humans.

Lily's father has always shielded her from the truth, but when she's sent to the prestigious St. Columba's school, she's delivered straight into the arms of a fae sleeper cell - the Black Diamonds. The Diamonds are planted in the human world as the sons and daughters of the most influential families and tasked with destroying it from within. Against her will, Lilywhite's been chosen to join them...and even the romantic attention of the fae rock singer Creed Morrison isn't enough to keep Lily from wanting to run back to the familiar world she knows.

This is another ARC/uncorrected proof that my sister left with me; I'm trying to clear my shelves of books that I don't think I'll keep on my PC. It's a YA novel. To be honest, after I read the first chapter I nearly gave up on it there and then, due to a stupid continuity/editing error that ran through the whole chapter. Those things really bother me. But then I read a little more, and got hooked on the story, and finished it in just a day or two.

SOME SPOILERS SO DON'T KEEP READING

It's a strange, fascinating premise. Some of the characters are really interesting, and all are unusual. There are some plot continuity errors that I hope got resolved before the book went to actual press. I love Lily's father, the relationship between Eilhid and her betrothed (dream-sex!) and strangely, by the end, I really liked Zephyr, too, even more than Creed, who I was totally rooting for earlier. At least he (Zephyr) was always honest in his motives; not that Creed wasn't, but I found something of Z's loyalty and sense of responsibility strangely real and touching. The end scene with the king and queen was strangely comical, as if humanizing them was supposed to make up for everything, and all her cruelties especially. The last pages were clearly setting up for a sequel, telling you some things and not others, and repeatedly telling you things weren't resolved ( I see now by looking online that there is a sequel ). All in all, there are flaws, but a pretty unusual read for the genre.
