The Radleys by this author was chosen as York's Big City Read 2018, which is the only reason I've recently read it - and, much to my surprise, I was totally engrossed! Without it, I wouldn't have noticed this novel in the Salvation Army charity shop in Ripon this afternoon. I don't know what to expect but will give it a go!

That was amazing, a superb story, beautifully told. I got totally involved in the life of the 439-year hero, currently known as Tom Hazard and teaching history in a London comprehensive school.
How do you cope with all the memories when you were born in the 16th century? Worked for William Shakespeare? Sailed with Captain Cook? Played the piano in Paris in a 1920s jazz club? Still love your wife who died of plague in 1623 and haven't seen your only daughter since before that, although you know she suffers from the same condition as you and is probably alive somewhere? . . . .
