Saw this in a charity shop and it looked interesting.
I've dipped into this over the years and found it fascinating, very interesting.

Despite its importance, we don't hear much about naval experiences of WW1. Alexander Scrimgeour's experiences were therefore interesting to read. It's a tragedy that he was killed in his first-ever big sea battle and as such, we'll never read his experiences of such an event.
Being based in Edinburgh, his descriptions (of what seemed quite regular) jaunts into the capital and the social life he enjoyed there also caught my imagination. It's altogether an eye-opening insight into how middle-class UK life continued despite what was happening across the continent.

I always try and theme my November reading around Remembrance and wartime memoirs. I doubt I'll get this read this year, but will look forward to it next November.
