The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

This was a really well written (if uneven) book. I loved the Dominican history and culture -- it was the first time I've been exposed to it.
There were some flashback sequences that I wasn't a fan of, but overall the writing style and dialogue keep it interesting.
From Chapters.ca:
"Oscar is a sweet but disastrously overweight ghetto nerd who—from the New Jersey home he shares with his old world mother and rebellious sister—dreams of becoming the Dominican J.R.R. Tolkien and, most of all, finding love. But Oscar may never get what he wants. Blame the fukú—a curse that has haunted Oscar’s family for generations, following them on their epic journey from Santo Domingo to the USA. Encapsulating Dominican-American history, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao opens our eyes to an astonishing vision of the contemporary American experience and explores the endless human capacity to persevere—and risk it all—in the name of love."

Taking to the October Calgary BookCrossing meetup.
Picked up at the October meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
I really struggled with this book, even though I was listening to the audiobook from CPL. There were so many Spanish expressions and references and it jumped around through the generations.
Confessing that I only made it through 8 of the 16 hours of audio....

Released at the January meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Taking this one back into my library for a wild release perhaps.
